The church of the “Assumption of the Virgin Mary” or “Panagia” is the oldest known church of Kryoneri that served as the main church of the village until the construction of the church of “Agia Triada”. Due to the lack of sufficient historical sources, this church is dated to have existed at least from the 17th century. According to George Nikolaos and as recorded in his book Kryoneri (Matsani) Korinthia History and Daily Life: Contribution to the Study of the Mountain Settlements of Greece (2021), this particular church probably existed from Byzantine times if we take into account the revelations of columns and underground tombs of the early Christian years within the cemetery area. It is a tile-roofed church in the style of a single-aisled basilica, which survived in the post-Byzantine period, as did most of the churches in the village. Various maintenance works have been carried out in this church over the years. For example, in the distribution of the money offered by immigrants from the village to America (1914), a part of it was given for works in the church. Recently, landscaping works have been done, which further beautify this church, which was decorated with beautiful Byzantine paintings with money donated by some of the residents in memory of their deceased relatives. This church is celebrated on 15 August and 23 August (the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary).
